BLOG: February and March Round-Up

Things sort of got away from me a bit over the last couple of months, which is why this round-up covers both February and March. Spring has sprung! As we step past the daffodils and blink in the sunlight, remember that if you want to sit inside in the darkness, there’s plenty to read.

REVIEWS

Feminism for the 99% – Cinzia Arruzza, Tithi Bhattacharya, Nancy Fraser

A fascinating thesis on how feminism needs to work with other movements in order to be truly effective in the world today.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (#1 – #3) – Bryan Konietzko, Michael Dante DiMartino, Gene Luen Yang

Beautiful editions and stories following on from the animated series, true to the tone and style.

The Everlasting Rose (The Belles #2) – Dhonielle Clayton

The sequel to The Belles, unfortunately it didn’t quite hit all the notes I wanted it to – but they still make a wonderful duology.

Enchantée – Gita Trelease

A YA fantasy set in the tense times before the French Revolution, using the backdrop of social unsettlement to enhance the stakes for this story.

The Priory of the Orange Tree – Samantha Shannon

This is a huge epic novel pitting East against West, with political tensions, betrayals and also some wlw romance.

Gentleman Sinner – Jodi Ellen Malpas

This is my first ever DNF on this site, but guys I just couldn’t. I really couldn’t.

Girls of Paper and Fire – Natasha Ngan

One of the most-hyped books I saw last year, this is a hard-hitting fantasy which doesn’t shy away from triggering material such as sexual assault.

Ella Enchanted – Gail Carson Levine

I took some time to re-read an old favourite, and it made me happy.
